UX / UI Designer

User interface and experience design

What this life looks like

You design the digital experiences people love. UX (User Experience) and UI (User Interface) Designers create the interfaces of apps, websites, and digital products — deciding how they look, feel, and function. In Africa's rapidly digitising economy, where fintech apps, e-commerce platforms, and government services are moving online, UX/UI designers who understand African users are essential to creating products people actually want to use.

What she actually does

You research user needs through interviews and testing, map user journeys, create wireframes and interactive prototypes, design pixel-perfect visual interfaces, test designs with real users and iterate, collaborate closely with product managers and software engineers, maintain design systems, and ensure the final product is accessible, intuitive, and beautiful.

Why it matters in Africa

Africa's fintech boom — with apps like M-Pesa, Flutterwave, PiggyVest, and Kuda Bank serving tens of millions of users — has made UX/UI design one of the most in-demand skills on the continent. African users have specific needs: low-bandwidth optimisation, feature phone support, local language support, and design for users new to digital services. African UX designers who understand this context are invaluable.
