What this life looks like
You shape the spaces people live and work in. Interior Designers plan and design the interiors of homes, offices, hotels, restaurants, and public spaces — combining aesthetic vision with practical knowledge of space, materials, lighting, and human behaviour. Africa's construction boom, growing hospitality sector, and expanding upper and middle class are creating significant demand for skilled interior designers across the continent.
What she actually does
You consult with clients to understand their needs and aspirations, develop spatial concepts and mood boards, select furniture, finishes, lighting, textiles, and artwork, produce technical drawings and specifications for contractors, manage budgets and procurement, oversee installation, and deliver spaces that are beautiful, functional, and true to the client's vision.

Why it matters in Africa
Africa's luxury hotel market is growing, new commercial office buildings are being fitted out across major cities, and a growing middle class is investing in their homes. African interior design is also developing a distinctive aesthetic — blending contemporary design with African craft, art, and materials. Designers who can work in this space, using local artisans and materials, are finding increasing demand from local and international clients.
