Cloud Architect

Designs cloud computing infrastructure

What this life looks like

You design the digital infrastructure of the modern world. Cloud Architects plan and oversee the migration, design, and operation of organisations' technology systems on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Every large organisation in Africa is moving to the cloud — and they need people who understand it deeply.

What she actually does

You assess an organisation's technology needs, design cloud infrastructure that is secure, scalable, and cost-effective, lead the migration of systems from on-premise servers to the cloud, set standards and best practices for cloud usage across the organisation, and work with engineering teams to implement your designs. You must balance performance, security, cost, and reliability.

Why it matters in Africa

Africa's cloud market is growing rapidly as data centres come online in Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, and Cairo. African banks, telecoms, and governments are investing heavily in cloud infrastructure. AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure all have dedicated Africa regions, creating immediate demand for cloud professionals.
