What this life looks like
You invest in the companies of tomorrow. Venture Capitalists (VCs) manage funds that invest in early-stage, high-growth companies — typically technology startups — in exchange for equity. You take calculated risks on founders and ideas that could become the next Flutterwave, Andela, or Jumia. Africa's VC ecosystem has grown dramatically and needs more African investors at the table.
What she actually does
You source and evaluate startup investment opportunities, conduct due diligence on founders and business models, negotiate investment terms, sit on portfolio company boards to provide strategic guidance, support founders with networks and talent, and ultimately exit investments through acquisitions or IPOs to return capital and profits to your fund's investors.

African tech startups raised over $6 billion in VC funding in 2021 alone. Firms like Partech Africa, TLcom Capital, and Future Africa are investing in the continent's most innovative companies. However, Africa remains severely underfunded relative to its opportunity — and there are too few African investors, particularly women, in the ecosystem.
