Animator (2D/3D)

Animated content creation

What this life looks like

You make still images move and breathe. Animators create the moving images behind films, series, games, advertising, and educational content — working frame by frame to create the illusion of life and movement. Africa's animation industry is growing rapidly, led by South Africa's Triggerfish Animation and a new generation of Nigerian, Kenyan, and Ghanaian animation studios.

What she actually does

You create character animations, visual effects, motion sequences, or full animated films using 2D software (Adobe Animate, ToonBoom Harmony) or 3D software (Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D). You work from storyboards and animatics, rig characters for animation, create natural movement, collaborate with directors and sound designers, and render final sequences for delivery.

Why it matters in Africa

Triggerfish Animation Studios (South Africa) has produced Netflix Originals and won international awards. A growing ecosystem of animation studios in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana is developing original content for African and international audiences. African streaming platforms are commissioning animated children's content featuring African characters. The market for skilled African animators is growing faster than the supply.
